Some Grateful Dead...

This week marks the 11th anniversary of Jerry Garcia's sad death at age 53. In honour, I'll be posting a few goodies from the extensive catalogue he helped create. The first is a benefit concert for the Greenpeace & Rainforest Action Network and featured several guests. (Infor below courtesy deadbase.com) The show occurred on September 24, 1988 in NewYork, and was broadcast. (My apologies that this is not such a high quality recording, but you'll get the gist.)

Brent Mydland's work is especially tight as are his vocals on Man Smart, Woman Smarter.

Set One:
Iko Iko
Feel Like a Stranger
West L. A. Fadeaway (featuring Mick Taylor)
Little Red Rooster (featuring Mick Taylor)
Box Of Rain
Ramble On
When I Paint My Masterpiece > Don't Ease Me In

Set Two:
Chinese Bones (Robyn Hitchcock cover, Suzanne Vega on vocals)
(This has got to be one of the oddest covers the Dead ever participated in. A couple of years later, Vega contributed lovely versions of Cassidy and China Doll to the tribute album Deadicated.)
Neighborhood Girls (Suzanne Vega song, SV on vocals)
Crazy Fingers > Man Smart, Woman Smarter
Every Time You Go Away (featuring Daryl Hall and John Oates)
What's Going On > Drums > The Wheel (featuring Baba Olatunji)
Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away

Alas, too, my copy is missing the encore of Good Lovin' and Knocking on Heaven's Door.
